So your practice has Facebook, but are you using it?

Good morning, afternoon or evening,

Most dentists have or should have a Facebook page for their practice and I have noticed a large proportion of these pages are incredibly underutilised with few fans and a lack of content (unless they are a Dental Focus Social Media client).

It is not uncommon for a practice to fall into the trap of creating a Facebook page and expecting immediate success with minimal effort. So here are a few of my top tips to remind you why Facebook is essential:

  • Relationship building – Dentists have the opportunity to engage with current and potential patients through the content they post, which should be regular, varied, interesting and interactive. This type of engagement with your online community contributes to loyalty towards your practice.
  • Digital word of mouth (referrals) – When a follower interacts with your page their friends can see the activity on the news feed. Considering the average Facebook user has roughly 100 friends or more, a follower interacting with you on a regular basis increases the visibility of your practice creating a pool of potential patients.
  • Targeting – Facebook gives you the tools to target specific demographics through posts and adverts to get your brand in front of the right audience, giving you the opportunity to convert them into patients.

Facebook can be incredibly effective, however, all of the efforts will be dampened if you are not actively encouraging patients within your practice to visit and like your page!

If you’ve spoken to me before about Social Media this shouldn’t be new however I appreciate a refresher is always nice!
